Some of you may see a personality change in others who have lost loved ones or suffered a loss of great magnitude in some form or another. Some of you may think that person is “broken” because their demeanor has become more contemplative and their vivaciousness seems to be lost. But death is the master teacher of what matters in life and what does not matter, it deepens the thoughts and feelings of all it touches, stripping away frivolity and banality, leaving maturity and compassionate understanding. The price to pay for the burnishing of the soul into refined gold is suffering, but ultimately the gift it brings is a deepening of inner contentment, joy and peace.

What I once experienced as a significant, great loss (a memory implant) changed me in ways I couldn’t have understood “at the time.” Years ago I realized that nothing is ever really lost, I gained so much more from it all. The plug was pulled from the “past”, as if none of it ever happened and truly none of it did (knowing none of it was real really shaped it all so differently)…just memories that have helped deeply with learning valuable lessons for now.
