Tattoos in dream symbolism: a dream about someone giving you a tattoo refers to the image others see you as. Others may see you as something that you were years ago, but that doesn’t equate to the way you are being in the present. To dream of looking at tattoos on your own skin means that you are not letting go of mistakes you made in the past and you still feel uncomfortable with remembering them. This would be the general explanation of tattoos as dream symbols.
Regarding your dream, would be to remind you that you are so much more than any past folly (you are so much more than your skin). When you think of your past mistakes and cringe because they are simply not who you are today, remember this: the past is malleable, fluidly changing just like the future with every good decision you make today.
