QUESTION: You have encouraged us to become self-sufficient – as much as we can in an urban setting. My husband wants to raise a few chickens to produce eggs, but I’m vegan. What do you suggest about eating eggs?
The Seer: Eggs feed every single virus and bacteria that create conditions that are thought to be autoimmune diseases. Even if you are eating cage-free, natural eggs, these still act as food for pathogens. Viruses look for egg material in the body to feed on. There are multiple good reasons to be vegan.

Thank you for the question ( I have been debating eggs as well ) and the clear answer of Almine. A few months ago I thought to add organic, cage free, etc eggs to my diet as a way of adding variety to a vegan and gluten free diet. I scrambled an egg and within a couple of bites my stomach felt sick. So very thankful for the language of my body telling me no! And I am realizing that just a cookie or a muffin now and then is not a harmless “treat”.

There are egg alternatives for cookies and muffins – google ‘flax egg’ for more info – ground linseeds do the job in baking just as well. There are also great recipes for ‘omelette’ using chickpea (gram) flour :-p
