When our ego-centricity becomes our only relationship because the ‘external’ is recognized to be hostile, the shadows we cast by not fully expressing are no longer in our environment, but within. This creates ‘inner’ tyrannies as much as external relationships create ‘outer’ ones. This is similar to moving a light above your head and casting a shadow within, rather than without – like when you move the light to the side.
