Question:
What is the best type of milk to give my infant? She’s five months old.
The Seer:
Until she turns 1, the only type of milk she should drink is breast milk or formula because her digestive system is still sensitive, and she needs all the nutrients (like vitamin E and zinc) she can get. You shouldn’t add cow’s or goat milk (or any other alternative milk) to your baby’s menu just yet. You should also avoid giving your baby alternative milk such as almond milk, soy milk (don’t get a soy-based formula either … pea protein would be better when she’s older), rice milk, cashew milk, or oat milk because the amount of nutrients vary widely.
Thus, assuming you are not breastfeeding (the best!) but are choosing the infant formula option instead, then here’s what to look for in the best formula:
1. No corn syrup, no maltodextrin, and no palm oil.
2. Make sure that it’s organic and has the inclusion of proteins found in colostrum, like lactoferrin.
(In fact, Enspire is the first and only infant formula in the U.S. to include lactoferrin as an ingredient, according to the brand.)
