The Prudent Prepper – Home

Question:

What would be the most helpful asset to make our home more “prepper friendly” in the climate where we live — where temperatures regularly dip well below freezing and we don’t have a fireplace?

The Seer:

Get a basement. Insulate it as well as possible. It should stay above freezing no matter what the outside temperature is, it stays cool in summer as well and so it’s ideal for keeping food storage fresh.

Do you mean something like a root cellar, only bigger, dug into the side of the hill?
